Chapter 1: Introduction
Glossary of Terms for Web Page Usage
Before using the MedPlus TotalAlert® Alarm Network dynamic Web pages, you
may need to know the following terms or expressions:
Browsing a Web Page—Looking at information found on a Web page.
Button—A block on a Web page that resembles a push button, usually
used to enter information into a software program.
Case sensitive—Upper and lower case of the same letter are recognized
as different characters.
Click—Pressing the left-hand button on a mouse to select the item on a
computer display that the cursor is on top of.
Cursor—Visual cue on a computer monitor that indicates position.
Ethernet—Parallel communication port on a computer.
Internet browser—Program used for accessing information on a com-
puter network.
Link—Shown as underlined text on a Web page. Clicking on it takes
you to another Web page.
Mouse—Control on a computer system used to maneuver a cursor on a
computer display.
Pull down menu—List hidden in a window until you click on the arrow
by the first item in the list.
Right-click—Pressing the right-hand button on a mouse to select the
item on a computer display that the cursor is on top of.
RS-232 PPP—Serial communication port on a computer.
Web Page—Page of information obtained from a computer network.
Window—Divided areas on a computer display that are broken down
into different types of information.
NOTE:
Definitions given for right-hand and left-hand mouse buttons refer to a right-
handed mouse.
