b.Examinethegearteethofthefollowingpartsforscoringandother
mechanicaldamagewithaborescope:
•Spurgear(right-handside)
•Idlergear
•T ailrotordrivegear
•Spiralbevelpinion(right-handside)
4.IfthecompressorstallorsurgeoccurredontheengineNo.1
(left-handengine),dothefollowing:
a.Onthetransmissionassembly,removetherequiredinspectionplug(s).
b.Examinethegearteethofthespiralbevelpinion(left-handside)for
scoringandothermechanicaldamagewithaborescope.
5.Ifdamageisfoundongearsofthetransmissionassembly,dothe
following:
a.Removethetransmissionassembly.
b.AttachaTHISCOMPONENTWASREMOVEDFROMSERVICE
BECAUSEOFACOMPRESSORSTALLORSURGEtagonthe
transmissionassembly.
c.Sendthetransmissionassemblytoanapprovedrepairfacilityto
disassembly,cleananddoadetailedinspection.
6.Ifnodamageisfoundonthegears,thetransmissionassemblyis
serviceable.

1.Onthetailrotorgearbox,removetheinspectionplug.
2.Examinethecontactpatternsofthepiniongearwithastronglight.
Ifthegearcontactpatternsshowsignsofscufng,scoring,orother
mechanicaldamage,dothefollowing:
a.Removethetailrotorgearbox.
b.AttachaTHISCOMPONENTWASREMOVEDFROMSERVICE
BECAUSEOFACOMPRESSORSTALLORSURGEtagonthetail
rotorgearbox.
c.Sendthetailrotorgearboxtoanapprovedrepairfacilityforinspection
andrestorationofthetailrotorgearbox.
3.Doatorquecheckofthetailrotorgearboxattachmenthardware.
4.Examineallthecomponentsofthetailrotordriveshaftassemblyfor
conditionandsecurityofattachment.
a.Ifanydamageisfound,repairorreplacethedamagedpart(s)as
required.
