Becauselightningbehaviorisdifculttopredict,doafullinspection
ofthehelicopter.Lightningdamagecanshowasburnmarks,heat
discoloration,arcmarks,orassmallweldmarks(wherethemetalhas
meltedandbecomesolidagain).Honeycombandothercomposite
materialsmayshowsignsofdelamination.Localizedpaintremovalin
compositematerialsmayindicatedamagetotheexpandedcopperfoil
protection.
NOTE
Inallinstancesbelow,ifdamageisfoundinanyarea,extendthe
inspectioninthoseareasuntilnomoredamageisfound.Ifany
componentshowssignsofarcburns,discardthecomponent.
Useamagnetometerwitharangenolargerthan±5gauss.Putthe
arroworthereddot(dependingonthemagnetometermodel)within0.5
inch(13mm)ofthecomponentyouarechecking.Pointthearrowatthe
component.Ifpartsofanycomponenthaveareadingthatisgreaterthan
1gauss,degaussthesecomponents.

inspectionofthehelicopterasfollows:
a.Visuallyexaminethefollowingcomponentsforsignsofarcing,
burning,andcondition,speciallyintheareaaroundthemountingbolts
andelectricalbondingstraps:
