NOTE
Connection of an external telephone is
available for MFC-1900, MFC-1901,

Connecting an external or
extension telephone 8
You can connect a separate telephone
directly to your machine as shown in the
diagram below.
1 Extension telephone
2 External telephone
3 Protective Cap
Before you connect an external telephone,
remove the protective cap (3) from the EXT.
jack on the machine.
When you are using an external telephone,
the LCD shows Telephone.
For Fax/Tel mode only 8
When the machine is in Fax/Tel mode, it will
use the F/T Ring Time (fast double-ringing) to
alert you to pick up a voice call.
(for MFC-1900, MFC-1901, MFC-1910W and
MFC-1911NW)
Lift the external telephone’s handset, and
then press Hook to answer.
(For MFC-1905 and MFC-1916NW)
Lift the machine's handset.
Using a non-Brother cordless
external handset 8
If your non-Brother cordless telephone is
connected to the telephone line cord (see
Connecting an external or extension
telephone on page 83) and you typically carry
the cordless handset elsewhere, it is easier to
answer calls during the Ring Delay.
If you let the machine answer first, lift the
cordless handset and then go to the machine
so you can press Hook to transfer the call to
the cordless handset.
NOTE
Not all brands of cordless telephones are
compatible for use with your machine.
