30 Chapter 5 Acquiring Images using the Cephalometric Modality
Preparing and Positioning the Adult and Pediatric Patient
To prepare and position the patient, follow these steps:
1. Ask the patient to remove all metal objects.
2. Ask the patient to wear a lead apron. Ensure that the apron lays flat across the patient’s shoulders.
3. Pull out at the top part of a head clamp bar to extend both bars.
4. Ask the patient to do the following:
Move forward.
Stand up straight in the following positions:
For a frontal AP, facing the generator.
For a frontal PA, facing the cephalometric sensor.
Place both ears in between the head clamps.
5. On the control panel, press and hold to level the ear cones to the patient’s auditory canals.
Important: The head clamp will NOT extend if you pull out at the lower
part of the bar.
