Faults and remedial measures
When something isn’t working…
Often only small faults cause a malfunction. You can usually easily remedy such faults yourself.
Please consult the following table before contacting your local OBI store. This saves effort and
possibly also costs.

Improper repairs can cause your device to stop functioning safely. This endangers
yourself and your environment.
Fault/malfunction Cause Remedial measure
Motor does not start. Tank empty? ►Check before starting!– p.108.

Incorrect starting procedure? ►Starting the motor– p.109
Spark plug cable not firmly at-
tached?
Attach plug firmly (►Cleaning/re-
placing the spark plug– p.122).
Plug of the ignition cable
soiled?
Clean plug (►Cleaning/replacing
the spark plug– p.122).
Excess fuel in the combustion
chamber?
Loosen throttle block, press in
choke lever, start motor several
times.
If the motor does not start: remove
spark plug and dry off electrode
(►Cleaning/replacing the spark
plug– p.122).
Spark plug is soiled (tip is
rusted)?
Clean spark plug (►Cleaning/re-
placing the spark plug– p.122).
Distance from electrode to
spark plug too great?
Set gap (►Cleaning/replacing the
spark plug– p.122).
Incorrect fuel or incorrect mix-
ture?
Empty tank and fill up with the cor-
rect mixture (►Usable fuel-oil mix-
ture– p.126).
Filter for fuel-oil mixture
stopped up?
Have an expert replace it.
Spark plug defective? Replace spark plug.
Motor cold? Actuate choke.
Carburetor setting not cor-
rect?

Motor does not reach
the maximum speed.
Air filter is soiled? Replace air filter (►Replacing the
air filter– p.122).
Spark plug is soiled (tip is
rusted)?
