Example showing the attachment of a chain saw
for tree maintenance to the centred rear midpoint
of the carry strap
If the chain saw is moved from one hanging mecha-
nism to another, the user should make sure that the
chain saw is secured in the new position before
releasing it from the previous mechanism.
Using the chain saw in the tree
An analysis of the accidents with this chain saw
when carrying out tree maintenance shows that the
main causes are incorrect one-handed operation of
the chain saw. In the majority of accidents, the user
does not assume a safe working position enabling
them to hold the chain saw by both handles which
leads to an increased risk of injury as a result of the
following:
lack of firm hold when the chain saw kicks back;
lack of control over the chain saw making it easier
for it to come into contact with climbing ropes
and the body of the user (in particular the left
hand and arm) and
loss of control due to an unsafe working position
and thus contact with the chain saw (unexpected
movements during work with the chain saw).
Safe working position for two-handed operation
Never saw branches located above the arms or
hands.
