3. OPERATION
After connecting the

the sensing is ready for use. Depending on
the supplied version the sensing head is suitable for the detection of combustible gasses and/or
vapours at ppm or LEL level or for the detection of Carbon Dioxide.
Newly supplied sensing heads are calibrated but should be calibrated after commissioning. The
calibration (target) gas and the measurement range of the sensing head are stated on the type
label. The type label can be found on the top side of the enclosure. The label also shows an EX
classification and the serial number. Each sensor head has an unique serial number which is
stated as “Sn.: ###”. The first two digits represent the production year.
For example Sn.18-1234567
is produced in the year 2018.

After installation it is advised to have the complete system commissioned by Consilium. The
entire system will be tested and operational at handover.
De ST650EX is designed for the detection (temporarily) of unexpected gas concentrations. The
ST650EX measures various Hydrocarbons. Other gases than the target gas gives a deviant
reading. The target gas [Calibrated: #####] is mentioned on the label.
More information about response factors, consult Consilium for advice.
The ST650EX equipped with a catalytic bead sensor is not suitable for use in environments
where continuous concentrations of gas are present. Continues concentrations of gas affects
the life time of the sensor and creates a significant lose of sensitivity.
A gas detector provided with a catalytic bead sensor is also not suitable in areas where silicon
compounds, organometallic compounds, organic phosphate esters, halogen-containing
hydrocarbons and sulphur compounds are present. These environmental factors may
significantly reduce the life of the sensor. For example; sensors that are exposed to as little as
10 ppm of an organic silicon compound can lose over 90% of their response. If in doubt, consult
Consilium for advice.
