NOTE: Battery cable corrosion is the most common type of increased resistance circuit failures.
NOTE: Lightly coating the battery cable lugs with a petroleum jelly will help prevent corrosion of the battery
cables.
7. Perform a visual inspection of the batteries.
• Inspect the battery case for signs of damage. Battery cases that excessively bow out in the middle indi-
cate that the battery froze or was over heated and should be replaced.
NOTE: Slight bowing out is normal for a fully charged battery and a slight dishing in is normal for a discharged
battery.
8. Document the battery serial numbers on the battery check list. See Figure 6.2.
9. Document the battery codes on the battery check
list.
10. Inspect the fuses.
11. Measure and document the resting voltage of each
battery.
12. Perform a capacity/discharge test on the battery
pack by following the procedures described in the
capacity/discharge test section of this chapter.
NOTE: The battery pack is not considered bad until
it falls below 30 amp hours (50% of the rated
1 hour capacity). If the battery pack tests at
30 amp hours or higher it is a good battery
pack.
13. Document the results of the capacity/discharge test
on the battery check list.
14. If the battery pack needs replaced under warranty, contact Cub Cadet for a battery replacement authorization.
NOTE: The battery check list will be needed when calling for an authorization and it goes with the batteries
when they are picked up.
