PTO switch
The PTO switch receives 4 - 5 volts at B-Com and C-
Com through a red wire with a white trace. When the PTO
switch is in the “OFF” state, a black wire with a white trace
carries the voltage from the C- N.O. contact of the PTO
switch to pin 5 of the VCM’s 16 pin connector. A white wire
with a black trace carries the voltage from the B- N.O. con
-
tact of the PTO switch to pin 6 of the VCM’s 16 pin con-
nector.
If there is a PTO switch fault:
1. Remove the VCM by following the procedures
described in the Vehicle Control Module (VCM) sec
-
tion of this chapter.
2. Install the harness break out adapters.
See Figure 5.67.
3. Push the PTO switch in to the “OFF” position.
4. Turn the key switch to the “ON” position
5. Measure the voltage from pin 7 (- probe) of the 12 pin connector to pin 8 of the 16 pin connector.
6. Measure the voltage from pin 7 of the 12 pin connector to pin 5 of the 16 pin connector.
7. Measure the voltage from pin 7 of the 12 pin connector to pin 6 of the 16 pin connector.
• If the DMM reads 0 volts at pin 8, the VCM is faulty.
• If the DMM reads 4 - 5 volts at pin 8 and reads 0 volts at pins 5 and 6 the VCM is faulty.
• If the DMM reads 4 - 5 volts at pins 5 and 6 there is a short in the system continue on to step 11.
8. Pull the PTO switch out to the “ON” position.
9. Measure the voltage from pin 7 (- probe) of the 12 pin connector to pin 5 of the 16 pin connector.
10. Measure the voltage from pin 7 of the 12 pin connector to pin 6 of the 16 pin connector.
• If the DMM reads 0 volts at pin 5 and/or 6, there is fault either in the switch or the harness. Continue on to
step 11.
• If the DMM reads 4 - 5 volts at both pins, the PTO switch is functional and the VCM is faulty.
