Make sure you keep the hand brake pressed as you
get on to prevent you om setting o too soon when
you put your feet on the pedals.
7.1.2 36 V drive system
When you begin to pedal with assistance switched on, the
motor assists you only slightly up to 1 km/h (even if you
pedal as hard as you can) and then produces its maximum
torque up to ve km/h. This feature prevents the bike om
lurching forward om a standstill once you pedal (e.g.,
when stopped at trac lights).
The thrust delivered by the motor depends on three fac-
tors:
• Your own pedalling eortThe motor adapts to the
force you apply. If you pedal harder, e.g. uphill or
when setting o, the power sensor detects this and
delivers more power than if you were only pedal-
ling gently. The assistance increases proportionally
if you pedal harder. Given identical pedal power,
the motor outputs more power in the HIGH mode
than in the medium or LOW mode. The thrust is
limited by the maximum motor output.

7 Assistance by the electric motor
If your Pedelec is equipped with hub gears, you may
have to take more load o the pedals when changing
gears than you would normally do when riding your
conventional bike. This is due to the additional power
output of the electric motor. The hub gear system
contains a device that protects it against gear shiing
operations under excessive loads in order to preserve
the gear unit in the hub.

7.1.1 26 V drive system
The motor provides support as soon as you switch the
assistance on and start pedalling. This makes it easier for
you to set o up a hill.
