This document is an Owner's Guide for Directed security/keyless entry and remote start systems, specifically models 5305V, 5305P, 5305X, 5305A, and 5305L. It provides comprehensive information on the system's features, operation, and maintenance.
Function Description:
The Directed system is a state-of-the-art security/keyless entry and remote start system designed for fuel-injected, automatic transmission vehicles only. It offers various functionalities to enhance vehicle security, convenience, and remote control. The system can be either a security system or a keyless entry system, with some features being exclusive to security systems.
Important Technical Specifications:
The system includes a 2-way LCD remote control and a 4-button 1-way remote control. The 2-way remote control features an internal antenna for transmitting and receiving information, a display for command response feedback and system states, and four command buttons for arming/locking, disarming/unlocking, auxiliary channels, and remote start. A programming button on the back of the remote allows user selection of LCD remote control response options. The Control Center, typically located on the upper part of the front windshield, houses the antenna for 2-way communication and includes a control center LED (status LED) as a visual indicator of the system's status. The 2-way remote control is powered by one 1.5V AAA battery, while the 1-way remote control is powered by either two 3V CR2016 batteries or one 3V CR2032.
Usage Features:
- Basic Commands:

- Advanced Commands:
- Additional Auxiliary Functions: Press the lock and AUX buttons simultaneously for auxiliary 4, unlock and AUX buttons simultaneously for auxiliary 5, or lock and remote start buttons simultaneously for auxiliary 6.
- Timer Mode: Press the lock and remote start buttons simultaneously. Keeps the engine warm by automatically activating remote start every three hours for a maximum of six cycles (timed mode) or checks temperature every three hours and starts if below 0°F (temperature mode). Exits automatically after 18 hours in temperature mode.
- Short-run Turbo Mode: Press the remote start and AUX buttons simultaneously. Keeps the engine running for a programmable period after arriving at your destination to cool down the turbo.
- Optional Rear Window Defogger: Automatically activates during remote start if the control module temperature is below 55°F.
- Multi-car Control Capability: The 2-way remote control can operate up to four vehicles. Press the P button on the back for one second to switch between vehicles.
- Paging Features: The control module sends a page to the remote for command confirmation or alarm status. The remote beeps or vibrates and displays the armed/locked or disarmed/unlocked status. If triggered, the LCD displays the zone. Press any button to clear the page.
- Remote and System Operations:
- Passive Arming/Locking: System automatically arms/locks 30 seconds after ignition is turned off and a door is opened/closed. Status LED flashes twice as fast during countdown, siren/horn sounds at 20 seconds, and parking lights flash at 30 seconds.
- Warn Away® Response (security only): Light impacts trigger vehicle lights and siren/horn for a few seconds, 2-way remote beeps ten times (or vibrates once), and enters Page Recognition Mode.
- Triggered Response (security only): Activated by various triggers (shock sensor, door, hood, trunk, ignition). Siren/horn sounds and lights flash for a programmed duration (default 30 seconds, programmable 1-180 seconds). 2-way remote repeats four quick beeps (or vibrates) for 15 seconds, and the full trigger alert icon turns on.
- Multi-level Security Arming (security only): Allows selection of active or bypassed sensors/inputs. Press the lock button consecutively to cycle through security levels, bypassing specific zones. Applies to a single arming cycle.
- Arming While Driving (security only): Press the lock button for two seconds while the vehicle is running. Siren/horn sounds once to confirm arming. Disarms when ignition is turned off or by pressing the unlock button.
- High Security Disarm (security only): If the system is triggering for longer than six seconds, pressing the unlock button will stop the trigger and return the system to an armed state (reset). Pressing the unlock button again disarms the system. Pressing the unlock button during the first six seconds of a triggered sequence disarms immediately.
- System (Emergency) Override: Manually disarm the system or disable the starter kill if the remote is lost or damaged. Turn ignition to ON, then press and release the control center button the preset number of times (default 1 press) within 15 seconds.
- Valet Mode: Prevents automatic arming/locking and triggering. All convenience functions (door locks, trunk release) still work. To enter/exit: turn ignition ON, then OFF, then press and release the control center button within 10 seconds. Alternatively, open any vehicle door, press unlock, then press lock and unlock simultaneously. Status LED lights solidly in Valet Mode and turns off when exiting.
- Pit Stop Mode: Allows the vehicle to remain running after the key is removed. Useful for short stops while keeping the engine and climate controls on. To activate: set parking brake, press and release the remote start button (programmed amount of times), then wait five seconds. Turn ignition key to OFF, exit, and secure the vehicle.
- Nuisance Prevention Circuitry (NPC): Prevents repetitive false alarms from faulty switches or environmental conditions. If the same sensor/switch triggers the alarm three times within 60 minutes, NPC bypasses that zone for 60 minutes. Doors are bypassed until the trigger ceases after three full cycles.
- Power Saver Mode: Automatically enters while armed or in Valet Mode after a period of inactivity to lower current draw. In armed state, LED flashes at half rate after 24 hours. In Valet Mode, LED turns off after one hour of no ignition activity.
- Diagnostics (security only):
- Arming Diagnostics (Bypass Notification): If armed with an active input (e.g., door open), the unit chirps once, then again a few seconds later. The system ignores the active zone until the input stops.
- Disarming Diagnostics (Tamper Alert): Four chirps indicate a trigger in your absence. Five chirps indicate a zone was bypassed by NPC. The control center LED indicates the triggered zone by blinking a pattern.
- Programming the LCD Remote Control:
- To enter programming mode: Press and hold the P button on the back of the remote until one long beep sounds.
- Beeps and Vibration, On/Off: Press the lock button to select beeps only (1 beep), vibrate only (1 vibrate), beep & vibrate (1 beep & 1 vibrate), or no beep & no vibrate (1 long beep).
- Illumination On/Off: Press the unlock button to select LCD backlight illumination On (1 beep backlight On) or Off (2 beeps backlight Off).
- Page Notification: Press the remote start button to select page On (1 beep) or Off (2 beeps). When Off, only command responses are received, not alarm trigger pages.
- To exit programming mode: The remote exits after five seconds of inactivity and emits two long beeps.
- Owner Recognition: Allows programming different settings for each remote control using a Directed Bitwriter, supporting up to four users with personalized settings.
- Rapid Resume Logic: Stores the system's current state (armed, disarmed, Valet Mode) in non-volatile memory, recalling it if power is lost and reconnected.
