DismantlingofRinglockisnodierentfrommostother
typesofscaold.Generally,thedismantlingprocedure
is the reverse of the erection procedure; the last com-
ponentinstalledisthersttoberemoved.
The following points are not to be considered as
uniquetoRinglock,butwillprovideyouwithaguide
for safe practices.
▪ Priortostartingthedismantling,theSupervi-
sor should meet with all the dismantling team of
scaolderstodevelopasafeplanofworkwhich
identies,controlsand/orremovesallidentiable
hazards. This should have formed part of the Risk
Assessment.
▪ Controlthetracofsitepersonnelandthegeneral
public in the area immediately below and around the
scaoldasitisbeingdismantled.Ifnecessarybarri-
cade the area.
▪ Ensurethatallscaoldershavethecorrectpersonal
protective equipment (PPE).
▪ Handle all components carefully so that they will not
get damaged. The safety of those dismantling the
scaoldandthepublicshouldtaketopprioritydur-
ing dismantling.
▪ Beforestartingthedismantlingprocedures,inspect
theentireareawherethescaoldistobedisman-
tled. Replace any components that have been re-
moved. Pay very close attention to bracing and ties.
▪ Donotremoveascaoldtieuntilthescaoldcom-
ponents above the tie have been disassembled and
lowered to the ground.
▪ Use temporary work platforms or loading platforms
at each level.
▪ Allscaoldersshouldbewearingsafetyharnesses
andotherappropriatePPE.Wherenecessary,har-
nessesshouldbeattachedtothescaoldatappro-
priate points (refer to Safety Harness Attachment
Guidelines)
▪ Useropesandslingstoraisescaoldparts.Donot
throw or bomb components.
▪ Inspect all components to ensure that each one is
suitableandtforpurposethenexttimeitisused.
Identify all damaged components by tagging or
marking them conspicuously.
▪ These components should be kept separated and
segregated from all the
other components.
