Recommendations
Prior to Erecting Ringlock the following is recommend-
ed:
▪ The job site should be inspected to ensure that
the ground or other supporting structure is strong
enough to safely support the self-weight of the scaf-
fold and the imposed loads on the platforms. In ad-
dition,pleasemakeyourselfawareoftheproximity
ofpowerlines,overheadobstructionsandweather
conditions. These could pose a possible danger
duringtheerection,useanddismantlingofRinglock
and should be evaluated and adequately addressed
in accordance with the requirements for provision of
Risk Assessments and Method Statements.
▪ Check the condition of the building façade at the
proposed tie locations.
▪ The spacing of the Standards should be in accord-
ancewiththerelevantlayouts,
if available.
▪ Ifdesigndrawingsofthescaoldarerequired,
check the requirements of the local authority with re-
spect to what must be shown on the drawings (load
rating,erection/dismantlinginstructionsetc.)
▪ All equipment should be inspected prior to use to
ensure that it is in good condition and is serviceable.
Damaged or deteriorated equipment must not be
used.
▪ Avoidstoringorhandlingscaoldcomponentsbe-
low or close to electrical power lines. Check the re-
quirements of the authority having jurisdiction for the
exclusionszones.
▪ Caremustbetakenwhenscaoldingworkisin
closeproximitytoexposedandinsulatedelectrical
linesandhiddenelectricalcables(forexample,
cableconcealedbehindasurfacewhereascaold
anchoristobetted).
▪ Be aware of all Client and work related site safety
procedures as well as reference to local/ regional
and National legislation.
▪ Beawareofpossibledangersregardingexplosions
orre.
▪ Ensurethatthescaoldersaretrainedandfullyin-
structedtoerectRinglocksystemscaolding.
▪ Check the safety and function of all the tools that
are used during erection.
Risk Assessment
Prior to Starting Erection Conduct a Risk Assessment
A risk assessment is simply a means of determining
what could cause harm within your workplace and
developing suitable control measures to prevent ac-
cidents. It is also a legal requirement and you have
duties under HSE legislation.
BeforestartingerectionofRinglockscaolding,we
would recommend you consider the following:
▪ Ensurethatallscaoldershaveseentheriskas-
sessment and ensure that they understand it.
▪ Ensurethatallscaoldingworkerssigntheriskas-
sessment form.
▪ Doublechecktheworksite,ensurethatallscaold-
ing workers have checked their tools.
▪ Securetheworkarea,isolatefromothersandes-
tablish drop zones.
▪ Consider the job at hand and ensure that nothing
has been missed.
▪ Never be taken in by the “Big Risk” and miss other
potentialproblems(suchastriphazards,people
workingnearby,possibilityofdroppingobjectsetc.)
Onceyoustarttheerectionwork:
▪ Never work outside the scope of the Risk Assess-
ment.
▪ Always stop work and re-assess if conditions
changeorifadditionalhazards,whicharenotin-
cludedintheRiskAssessment,becomeapparent.
▪ Always stop work if you feel unsafe.
