The burner will not ignite, has an erratic
burner flame, or is sooting.
The air shutter requires adjustment. 20
The burner tube is blocked.
The burner tube is misaligned.
The flame spreader is misaligned.
The orifice is blocked. 25
The system has improper gas pressure or is using bad LP gas. 29
The gas solenoid valve is defective. 23
The U-tube is blocked or collapsed. 49
The water is too hot or is too cold. If the thermostat is set within the normal operating range, starting a
heating cycle at 120°F (49°C) ± 8 degrees and ending a heating
cycle at 140°F (60°C) ± 6 degrees, there is no operational issue.

The thermostat is out of calibration.
The thermostat is not seated on the tank correctly.
The thermostat is defective.
EXT models only: the mixing valve is defective. 24
EXT models only: the screen for the mixing valve is blocked.
The bypass kit is not set properly. 40
There is excessive weeping coming from the
pressure/temperature (P/T) relief valve.
Some weeping or dripping occurs as the water heats up. 25
