1 Introduction
EDMI GS-60B is a SMETS compliant, battery powered, ultrasonic gas meter with smart
functionality and wireless communications. Gas flow rate is calculated using a single bounce,
speed of sound measurement through a patented ultrasonic measurement technique. From this
data, the gas volume flow is determined. The volume flow data that is obtained is viewable on the
LCD display of the meter and also stored in non-volatile memory. Data is sent by the integrated
ZigBee radio to the Communications Hub to be sent via the WAN to the supplier.
The meter largely comprises two main parts; a plastic smart electronic index and a metal chassis
housing the measurement and shut off valve components. The smart index contains a Liquid
Crystal Display (LCD), Keypad, Main Battery and a PCB comprising all electronic circuitry required
to perform the GS-60B’s functionality. The metal chassis houses an ultrasonic measurement unit
and shut-off valve sub-assembly.
The unit is powered by a single replaceable battery that supplies power to the electronic and radio
components. It also has supercapacitor circuitry that allows the metrology and clock to remain
operational while the main battery is disconnected.
2 Meter Dimensions
Figure 2-1 gives detailed dimensions for the meter. The height of the meter inclusive and non-
inclusive of bosses is given as well as the depth of smart index.
