4 Under the Battery Cover
Figure 4-1 and 4-2 detail the only supplier serviceable item on the GS-60B the main battery. The
compartment is protected by a tamper evident seal which must be physically broken before
allowing access to the cover screws. Any engineer on site that finds the meter with a broken
tamper seal should assume that there has been some attempt at physical access.
The major parts labelled are:
1. Battery cover screws (underneath black plastic tamper evident seal)
2. Main lithium thionyl chloride battery
3. Battery compartment physical tamper switch
4. Battery connector
Caution! The battery supplied in the GS-60B is specifically for use within this meter and
should never be removed or used elsewhere. Similarly, batteries should only be
replaced with authorised replacements from EDMI to prevent shortened lifetime and
ensure correct meter behaviour.
Once the battery compartment screws have been removed, the compartment’s physical tamper
switch will be activated, resulting in a notification being sent via the Communications Hub and
ultimately to the supplier. Please be aware of this if performing work on the meter.
On opening the battery cover, the optical port is enabled. Note that, even though optical probe is
enabled no commands can be sent to the device. This interface can only be unlocked in a secure
triage facility.
