5 Inside the Meter
The meter is not designed to be re-opened after manufacture unless in an EDMI
approved triage centre.
During the normal operational life of the meter there is no reason to remove the meter cover. Any
attempt to remove the smart index from the meter chassis will trigger a physical tamper alert to be
logged in the meter and sent to the supplier.
Any issues with metering products should be referred to EDMI through the RMA procedure.
6 Physical Connections
Optical Port
The optical port connection location is shown in Figure 3-1.
The GS-60B uses an IEC1107 compliant optical interface to connect the meter to a PC/Test
bench/Portable device using a magnetic optical port read head.
Once the meter has left the factory the optical probe is in locked mode and cannot be used. The
optical probe can only be used if the meter is unlocked via the secure triage.
The optical port is only functional when the battery compartment is open. Opening the battery
compartment will send an alert to the supplier.
Meter Gas Connections
The Meter Gas Connections location are shown in Figure 3-1.
The meter is fitted with 1" (25.4mm) BS746 connections at 6” (152.4± 0.2mm) distance between
centers.
For the physical installation of the gas meter, please follow the relevant regulation (e.g. (Gas Act
1986, The Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998) and the relevant codes of practice
(e.g. Meter Asset Manager’s Code of Practice (MAMCoP) – Gas) and the Smart Metering
Installation Code of Practice, as appropriate.
Pressure Test Point
The pressure test point location is shown in Figure 3-1.
A 1/8” British Standard Pipe (BSP) pressure test point is located on the outlet boss of the meter to
allow the installer to carry out a standard gas pressure test.
Note: Recommended maximum torque value for the test point screw is 1.4Nm.
