Solving Print Quality Problems
You see banding (light lines).
■ The print head nozzles may need cleaning; see
page 84 for instructions.
■ Select a higher print quality and turn off High
Speed mode. See page 50 (Windows) or page 55
(Macintosh).
■ If you’re printing without a computer, make sure the
printer’s Paper Type setting matches the type of paper you’re using; see page 29 for
guidelines.
■ If you’re printing from a computer, make sure the Media Type setting matches the paper
you loaded; see page 72 for guidelines.
■ Make sure the printable side of the paper is face up. It’s usually whiter or shinier.
■ The ink cartridges may need replacing. To replace an ink cartridge, see page 85.
■ Try using Automatic mode. See page 50 (Windows), page 55 (Macintosh OS 8.6 to 9.x),
or page 56 (Macintosh OS X) for instructions.
■ Run the Print Head Alignment utility; see page 89 for instructions.
■ If you’re printing on envelopes or thicker paper, set the paper thickness lever to the
^ position for envelopes, as shown. Remember to return the lever to the m position when
printing on individual sheets or roll paper. You may also need to turn off
High Speed (in
the Advanced window).
