The CO detector monitors the CO concentration in parts per
million (ppm) in the air around the detector.
50 ppm
Ì The maximum allowable concentration for conti-
nuous exposure of healthy adults over an 8-hour
period (according to the recommendations of the
Occupational Safety & Health Administration).
100 ppm
Ì Mild headaches, fatigue, dizziness, nausea after
2–3 hours.
300 ppm
Ì Frontal headaches within 1–2 hours, life-threate-
ning after 3 hours.
800ppm
Ì Dizziness, nausea, and convulsions within 45
minutes. Unconsciousness within 2 hours.
Death within 2–3 hours.
Ì This device is designed to protect individuals from the
acute eects of carbon monoxide exposure. It may not
protect those who are at additional risk due to age,
pregnancy, or health conditions. If in doubt, consult your
doctor.
Ì This device should not be used as a substitute for proper
installation, use, and maintenance of fuel-burning appli-
ances, including appropriate ventilation and exhaust sys-
tems.
Ì Common sources of CO include: Blocked chimneys from
replaces or stoves, gas oor heaters (gas boilers), hea-
ting systems, and the operation of charcoal grills, gas sto-
ves, or running engines in enclosed spaces.
Ì CO can penetrate walls and ceilings, so the source of
the CO leak could be in apartments on other oors,
in the basement, or in an adjacent building.
