Range Zero and Gain Points
Notes
To overcome thermal EMF differences when the calibrator polarity is
changed, it is necessary to reference negative Range Gain to the
minimum negative output (-1 digit) on that range.
For the 8508A 200V and 1kV DC ranges, setting the Calibrator to the
Range Gain point will cause the Calibrator output to revert to Standby.
It will be necessary to reselect OPR to operate the output.
For the 1kV DC range the Calibrator cannot be Range locked for the
zero adjustments, omit steps 2, 9, 10 and 11.
1. On the 8508A, select the required range.
2. On the Calibrator, select the positive Range Gain point Output value.
Deselect
AUTO to range lock the calibrator.
3. On the Calibrator, set zero output.
Select
OPR to operate the calibrator output.
4. On the 8508A, press
CAL to enter the Calibration Menu.
5. Press
SAMPLE to initiate the adjustment operation.
Adjustment is complete when the busy legend goes out and the adjusted
measurement is displayed.
6. On the Calibrator, select the positive Range Gain point Output value.
7. If the Set feature is being used:
On the 8508A, select Set on the
CALIBRATION Menu.
Use the numeric keys with the
SET VALUE menu to enter the true output value of the
calibrator at the range gain value, then press Enter.
8. Press
SAMPLE to initiate the adjustment operation.
Adjustment is complete when the busy legend goes out and the adjusted
measurement is displayed.
9. On the Calibrator set an output of -1 digit.
10. On the 8508A, press
CAL to enter the Calibration Menu.
11. Press
SAMPLE to initiate the adjustment operation.
Adjustment is complete when the busy legend goes out and the adjusted
measurement is displayed.
12. On the Calibrator, select the negative Range Gain point Output value, allowing for
the -1 digit offset.
13. If the Set feature is being used:
On the 8508A, select Set on the
CALIBRATION Menu.
Use the numeric keys with the
SET VALUE menu to enter the true output value of the
calibrator at the range gain value, then press Enter.
14. Press
SAMPLE to initiate the adjustment operation.
Adjustment is complete when the busy legend goes out and the adjusted
measurement is displayed.
15. On the Calibrator, deselect
LOCKED to allow the Calibrator to Auto range.
Set zero output and select STBY to put the Calibrator output into Standby.
16. On the 8508A, select
DCV to revert to the range menu.
