Overcharged Refrigerant Systems
Compressorampswillbenearnormalorhigher.
Noncondensablescanalsocausethesesymptoms.
Toconrm,removesomeofthecharge,ifconditions
improve,systemmaybeovercharged.Ifconditions
don’timprove,Noncondensablesareindicated.
Wheneveranoverchargedsystemisindicated,always
makesurethattheproblemisnotcausedbyairow
problems.Improperairowovertheevaporatorcoil
mayindicatesomeofthesamesymptomsasanover
chargedsystem.
Anoverchargecancausethecompressortofail,since
itwouldbe“slugged”withliquidrefrigerant.
Thechargeforanysystemiscritical.Whenthe
compressorisnoisy,suspectanovercharge,whenyou
aresurethattheairquantityovertheevaporatorcoilis
correct.Icingoftheevaporatorwillnotbeencountered
becausetherefrigerantwillboillaterifatall.Gauges
connectedtosystemwillusuallyhavehigherhead
pressure(dependinguponamountofovercharge).
Suctionpressureshouldbeslightlyhigher.
