Function tests
General Under normal circumstances, function tests are only mandatory following repair
work. However, we recommend that the following function tests are carried out
on a regular basis to ensure that the welding system is safe and working properly
at all times.
Indicators and
controls
-
Check that controls work in accordance with the operating instructions
Gas solenoid
valve
-
The correct operation of the gas solenoid valve must be tested by activating
the torch trigger several times
-
To check the gas solenoid valve and the gas lines for leaks, the gas line to the
gas solenoid valve must be subjected to pressure.
Disable the gas feed at the gas cylinder and observe the pressure gauge for
any drop in pressure over a period of 2 min. There must be no pressure drop
at the pressure gauge
Function VRD If the VRD function is active on a power source, the correct functionality of the
safety feature must be checked as indicated below:
-
Measure U0 using measuring circuit 43,0001,0945
-
Connect measuring circuit and multimeter to the power source
-
Put the power source into the operation and set to electrode mode
Set potentiometer of the measuring circuit to max. -> voltage at the out-
put of the measuring circuit is 10,2 V +/- 0,5 V -> VRD LED must be illumin-
ated
Set potentiometer of the measuring circuit to min. -> voltage at the out-
put of the measuring circuit is 1,8 V +/- 0,5 V -> VRD LED must be illumin-
ated
-
Disconnect measuring unit and multimeter from the power source
-
Connect 24 V DC externally at the current sockets -> E28 must be displayed
-> VRD LED must not be illuminated
Test weld
-
A test weld should be carried out after performing the safety inspection
-
On power sources with VRD option, the VRD LED must go out during welding
and come on again after welding
