1 Introduction
This manual describes the setup and installation procedures for the Intraplex PTR-255 Program
Audio Codec Module. Experienced users may refer directly to the tables in Section 2 for
configuration data.
Additional information about this system is contained in your Intraplex multiplexer operation
manual.
The Intraplex PTR-255 codec module provides full-duplex digital transmission of high-fidelity
program audio. It features MPEG I & II Layer 2 and Layer 3 for flexibility and bandwidth
efficiency, as well as G.722 for low delay.
The PTR-255 plugs into any Intraplex multiplexer, allowing the audio signals to be combined
with other types of audio and data channels for transport over T1 (1.5 Mbps), E1 (G.703, 2
Mbps), ISDN and other high-speed digital lines.
Features of the PTR-255 codec module include:
Two full-duplex audio channels per module
Selectable analog or AES/EBU digital input and simultaneous analog and AES/EBU
digital output
MPEG Audio Layer 2, MPEG Audio Layer 3 or G.722 audio coding in either direction
of the link
7 kHz to 20 kHz audio bandwidth, user selectable
Stereo, monaural, dual monaural or joint stereo operation (MPEG)
Monaural or dual monaural operation (G.722)
Bi-directional auxiliary data channel up to 9.6 kbps
Built-in CCS-compatible and FHG-compatible inverse multiplexing for use on ISDN
lines
Optional transmission of four contact closures in each direction (requires the MA-556
module adapter)
When used as the codec engine in the IntraLink ISDN multiplexer, the PTR-255 is
compatible with most ISDN audio codecs currently available
