Section 1 Introduction/Specifications
FM HD Radio System
1.5 Basic RF System Description
An HD System may include one or more of the following devices depending on the
hardware configuration, combining mode, and desired potential modes of operation:
• HD transmitter with Controller
• HDx-FM Exciter
• Boost Pro amplifier
• UPS: Uninterruptable Power Supply
• High power combiner with reject load
• Test load
• Isolator (Circulator with reject load)
• Remote Control Interface
• Power monitoring devices
These pieces of equipment will have a their own documentation, possibly including a
corresponding technical manual and schematic package. See that documentation for
detailed information regarding specifications, installation, operation, maintenance,
theory, and troubleshooting for each specific device.
1.5.1 HDx-FM Exciter
• Reliable DSP platform: The HDx-FM utilizes an embedded DSP-based hardware
platform and with direct-to-channel conversion.
• The ¼VGA touch screen GUI for intuitive control and real-time monitoring.
• Direct proprietary ZHD+ transmitter interface for dedicated control and status
between the exciter and transmitter.
• Adaptive Correction: The exciter uses Real Time Adaptive Correction (RTAC), non-
linear adaptive correction for HD, FM+HD, and Split Level Combining (SLC) per-
formance.
• Stand-alone operation: Utilizes an internal harmonic filter for backup stand-alone
transmitter applications up to 55W RF output (FM; less for any HD modes).
• Customer Upgradeable: The exciter software/firmware is upgradeable by download-
ing a file onto a USB jump drive and using the USB port, or via a network connec-
tion.
