Section 3 Operation
FM HD Radio System
If the ZHD+ transmitter has an illuminated Foldback LED it is presently in a foldback
condition and the transmitter may be operating at a lower power or it may be folded
back to OFF. Refer to "3.6.3.2 FOLDBACK LED Illuminated" on page 3-9 for more
information.
The Interlock LED will illuminate if a Failsafe or Interlock loop has opened. Refer to
"3.6.3.3 INTERLOCK LED Illuminated" on page 3-10 for more information.
3.2.2 HDx-FM Exciter
Operation of the Exciter is through color touch screens. Intuitive control, setup and
diagnostics is achieved through these screens. Using the GUI screens, operational
parameters are controllable. By navigating through the screens and using pull-down
selection the operation and adjustment of the Exciter is simplified. Most of the choices
are self explanatory. View the screens on your equipment for further details and refer to
the HELP screens on the unit for more information.

detailed information.
3.3 ZX Front Panel Indicators, Displays and Controls
ZX transmitters feature a simplified control interface with the following controls and
indicators:
MULTIMETER: A front panel meter with a meter select pushbutton to select metering f
forward power, reverse power, PA volts, and PA amps.
MODE LEDS: A bank of three LEDs to indicate the transmitter operating mode: FM,
FM+HD, or HD. The operating mode is determined by the Flexstar exciter and is
communicated through the exciter interface cable.
MODULE STATUS LEDS: A bank of LEDs showing the status of individual PA and
PS modules. The LEDS are arranged on the front panel according to their physical
location in the transmitter.
APC/FOLDBACK LEDS: A bank of LEDs to indicate the following operational
conditions:
TX GAIN NORMAL (green) = transmitter is under APC control.
TX GAIN NORMAL (red) = transmitter system gain is to low for APC due to mod-
ule failures or insufficient exciter drive.
