STORAGE
If the outboard motor will be
removed from the boat for storage,
we recommend storing it vertically by
mounting it on a commercially
available stand.
If it is necessary to store the outboard
motor horizontally as shown, drain
the vapor separator (p. 104), and
drain the engine oil (p. 85), before
removing the outboard motor from
the boat.
Rest the outboard motor on a cushion
of protective material.
Any other horizontal storage position
may cause damage to the outboard
motor or oil leakage.
Cover the outboard motor to keep out
dust. Do not use plastic sheet as a
dust cover. A nonporous cover will
trap moisture, promoting rust and
corrosion.
REMOVAL FROM STORAGE
Check your outboard motor as
described in the BEFORE
OPERATION chapter of this manual.
If the cylinders were coated with oil
during storage preparation, the engine
may smoke briefly at startup.
This is normal.
