STARTING THE ENGINE
10. Turn the engine switch key to the
ON position.
The propeller must be lowered into
the water, running the outboard
motor out of the water will damage
the water pump and overheat the
engine.
11. Pull the emergency starter rope
lightly until resistance is felt, then
pull briskly.
If the engine fails to start refer to
Troubleshooting page 154.
Exposed moving parts can cause
injury. Use extreme care when
installing the engine cover. Do not
operate the outboard motor
without the engine cover.
12. Leave the AC generator cover off
and install the engine cover. Lock
the engine cover fixing levers.
13. Attach the emergency stop switch
lanyard securely to the operator
and return to the closest boat
landing.
