SERVICING YOUR OUTBOARD MOTOR
Engine damage or performance
problems that result from using a fuel
with percentages of ethanol or
methanol greater than shown above
are not covered under warranty.
If your outboard motor will be used
on an infrequent or intermittent basis,
please refer to the fuel section of the
STORAGE chapter (p. 96) for
additional information regarding fuel
deterioration.
Fuel Filter Inspection and
Replacement
The fuel filter is located under the
engine cover, on the right side of the
engine.
Water or sediment accumulation in
the filter can cause loss of power or
hard starting. To prevent engine
malfunction, inspect the filter and
replace when necessary.
1. Unlatch and remove the engine
cover for access to the fuel filter.
Gasoline is highly flammable and
explosive.
You can be burned or seriously
injured when handling fuel.
• Stop the engine and let it cool
before handling fuel.
• Keep heat, sparks, and flame
away.
• Handle fuel only outdoors.
• Keep away from your vehicle.
