  Inadepressurizedstate,thecompression
springwillpushthediaphragmupwardsothat
thevalveplatewillclose,creatingasealatthe
edgeleadingtothesupportcage(fail‐close).
  Themotorizationpressurewillproduceaforce
componentthatactsonthediaphragmfrom
above. 
  Theforcecomponentsarecomparedatthe
diaphragm. 
  Ifthemotorizationpressureisgreaterthanthe
compressionspringandoutletpressureacting
frombelow,thevalveplatewillbepushed
downward.Thiswillopenacorrespondinggap
betweentheinletpressureandoutletpressure
areas. 
  Inadepressurizedstate,thecompression
springwillpushthediaphragmdownward,
causingthevalveplatetobepusheddownward
andopeningagapbetweentheinletpressure
andoutletpressureareas(fail‐open).
  Themotorizationpressureandthecompres‐
sionspringwillproduceforcecomponentsthat
actonthediaphragmfromabove.
  Theloadingpressurewillproduceaforce
componentthatactsonthediaphragmfrom
below.
  Theforcecomponentsarecomparedatthe
diaphragm.
  Ifthemotorizationpressureisgreaterthanthe
loadingpressureactingfrombelow,thevalve
platewillsealofftheinlettpressureareasfrom
eachother.
