SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS
This product is a Safety Class
I
instrument, that is, one provided with
a
protective earth terminal. The
Multifunction Synthesizer and
all
related documentation must be reviewed for familiarization with
safety markings and instructions before operation. Refer to the Safety Considerations pages found at
the beginning of this manual for a summary of the safety information. Safety information pertinent
to the
task
at hand, that
is,
installation, operation, performance testing, and adjustments, is found
throughout this manual.

DESCRIPTION
The
HP
8904A
is a Multifunction Frequency Synthesizer that produces six fundamental waveforms
to
create complex signals. The waveforms available are: dc, sine wave, ramp (sawtooth), triangle,
square wave, and white (Gaussian) noise. The standard instrument is equipped with a single internal
channel
and
one output. The addition of available options can provide: a second
signal
output port,
three additional internal channels with modulation capabilities, and the ability to fast-hop between
different phase, frequency, and amplitude settings. Multi-instrument synchronization and high level
balanced output are also available.
