nnecting cables to the tape drive
CAUTION:
Never use a
cable where power is supplied through the SAS connector because th is may
damage the
drive. For internal drives, always use a spare power cord from the server’s
internal
power supply to the conventional power connector on the drive itself.
3. This will leave unused SAS cabling within the server because the other SAS connector is not
required in this conguration. Coil and secure the unused cabling so that it does not interfere with
other components inside the server.

Option 2: Connect cable to port on host SAS controller and replace existing
SAS cable
IMPORTANT:
This installation uses the supplied SAS cable to replace the existing SAS cable. See Figure 4 on page 22
and always refer to h
ttp://www.hp.com/go/connect BEFORE installing your tape drive.
ThefollowinginstructionsarevalidforsomeHPProLiantservers,butONLYIFrecommendedasanoption
on h
ttp://www.hp.com/go/connect. This installation uses the supplied split cable to replace the existing
SAS cable from the host SAS controller to the ser ver’s SAS hard disk drive bays. It diverts the cabling
from one of the hard disk drive bays to the tape drive. Y ou should be aware that you may lose the use of
ahar
d disk drive bay with this cabling solution.
Cabl
e routing varies from one server to another. You may need to remove other components, such as
fan b
anks, while you work with the cable. Always refer to your server documentation for server-specic
cabling instructions.
1. HP strongly recommends that the tape drive is connected to the second SAS port on the host
con
troller (this is the por t that connects to the hard disk drive bays with the highest numbers). Look at
the
front of the server and establish which SAS cable is connected to the hard disk drive bays with
the h ighest numb ers.
2. If h
ttp://www.hp.com/go/connect advises that you will lose the use of a h ard disk drive bay,
also identify the location of that disk drive bay.
