Go to “Installi

for instructio

external ports.
WARNING!
To avoid personal injury or damage to the server or tape dri ve, ensure that the server is disconnected
from the mains power supply while you i nstall the drive.
1. Before you remove the cover, ensure that you have s uffi cient spare PCI slots to complete the
installation. Remember you need enough spare PCI slots to accommodate the SAS cabling and
any additional H BA.
2. Assemble the necessary tools and materials:
• Phillips screwdriver
• Flat-bladed screwdriver (if your server uses slotted screws)
• Torx screwdriver (if your ser ver uses torx screws)
• Your ser ver m anuals (for reference during installation)
3. Perform a normal system shutdown and turn off the server and any connected peripherals. Ensure
that the ser ver is disconnected from the mains power supply.
4. Remove the cover and front panel from the ser ver, as detaile d in your server’s documentation.
As you work inside the server, you may have to disconnect other signal cables or p ower cords from
other devices to maneuver the new drive into place. If you have to do this, make a note of their
position and connections so you can put them back c orrectly later.

The following instructions apply to some HP ProLiant servers. They are valid O NLY IF the host SAS
controller on your server has a spare SAS connector. See Figure 18 on page 38 and always refer to
h
ttp://www.hp.com/go/connect BEFORE installing your tape drive.
IMPORTANT:
This installation uses the SAS cable supplied with the tape drive to connect to an internal port on the host
SAS controller or the new HBA. It require s a spare PCI slot to accommodate the cable supplied with
the tape drive. It does not modify your existing SAS c onfiguration.
NOTE:
These instructions are also valid IF you have installed a new HBA and it has ONLY internal SAS
connectors. Install the new HBA befor e you start the SAS cabling.
