Overview

This document serves as a Maintenance and Service Guide for the HP E24mv G4 model monitor, providing comprehensive information for trained service personnel. It outlines procedures for disassembly, part removal and replacement, diagnostic testing, and problem troubleshooting. The guide emphasizes safety precautions and adherence to regulatory requirements throughout the service process.

Function Description

The HP E24mv G4 monitor is a 60 cm (23.8 in) diagonal display designed for conferencing and general computing use. It features a liquid crystal display (LCD) with active matrix and in-plane switching (IPS) technology, offering a wide viewing angle and a nonglare panel with LED backlight. The monitor supports a resolution of 1920 x 1080 at 60 Hz, with full-screen support for lower resolutions and custom scaling to preserve the original aspect ratio. It includes a wide color gamut for NTSC color spaces and color space presets for NTSC.

For conferencing, the monitor integrates a camera with RGB and IR lenses, camera microphones, and a camera light to indicate active use. Audio features include speaker mute and volume control buttons, as well as a microphone button and mute light.

Connectivity options are extensive, including DisplayPort, HDMI, and VGA video inputs, an audio-out (headphone)/audio-in (microphone) combo jack, and a USB hub. The USB hub comprises one USB Type-B upstream port for connecting to a computer and four USB downstream ports for peripheral devices. One of the USB ports supports HP Sleep and Charge, allowing small devices like smartphones to charge even when the computer is off, provided OSD Performance mode is enabled.

The monitor is designed with an energy saver feature to reduce power consumption and includes a security cable slot for an optional security cable, along with cable management features.

Usage Features

The E24mv G4 monitor offers several ergonomic adjustments to enhance user comfort and flexibility. It has tilt, swivel, and height adjustment capabilities, and can pivot from landscape to portrait orientation.

User interaction is facilitated through a menu button and three assignable on-screen display (OSD) buttons. These OSD buttons can be reconfigured to quickly access commonly used operations, allowing for easy setup and screen optimization in multiple languages. The OSD menu provides controls for brightness, input selection, and other display settings.

The monitor stand is removable, allowing for flexible mounting solutions, including VESA® mounting brackets (100 × 100 mm) for wall-mount devices, swing arms, or workstations. The HP Quick Release 2 device enables quick attachment and removal of the monitor head from the stand.

Maintenance Features

The service guide details procedures for professional service technicians in a repair center, emphasizing that end-users should not perform these repairs. Key maintenance features include:

  • Preparation for Disassembly: Instructions for preparing the workspace, ensuring cleanliness, identifying disassembly areas, and gathering necessary equipment such as press fixtures, screwdrivers, knives, gloves, cleaning cloths, ESD protection, and a scraper bar.
  • Rear Cover Removal: Step-by-step instructions for removing the rear cover, including unscrewing fasteners and using a scraper bar tool to open the hooks between the middle frame and rear case.
  • Component Disassembly: Procedures for disassembling internal components such as speakers, webcam module, key board, audio board, and various wiring from the rear cover. It also covers the removal of brackets and screws securing the main boards.
  • Power Board Removal and Replacement: Detailed steps for removing the power board, including identifying connector positions (CN801, CN902) and a critical warning about discharging capacitors after unplugging the power supply due to residual charge. The guide provides part numbers for different sources of the power board.
  • Connector Repair: Specific instructions for repairing DisplayPort (CN501), HDMI (CN502), D-SUB (CN101), USB 3.0 B (CN106), USB 3.0 A (CN103), USB 3.0A (CN1032/CN1033), and Audio (CN610) connectors. These procedures involve using a soldering iron, de-soldering pump, and hot air gun to remove old solder and replace components, ensuring proper alignment and soldering techniques.
  • RoHS Compliance: The guide highlights the monitor's compliance with RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substance in Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive) requirements and specifies the use of lead-free solder wire for repairs. It also clarifies that replacement parts must be RoHS compliant if the original parts were.
  • ERP Lot5 Requirement: Outlines the technical competence and insurance requirements for professional repairers, ensuring compliance with regulations for electrical equipment in Member States.
  • Firmware Updates: Information on where to find firmware updates (support.hp.com) if available and necessary.
  • Function Test: After any repair, a function test is required to confirm that all functions are working correctly. This includes testing HDMI, DisplayPort, D-SUB, USB-C, and audio functionality using a computer or DVD player and speakers.
  • Troubleshooting: A table of common issues and solutions is provided, covering problems like a blank or blinking screen, blurred images, "Check Video Cable" or "Input Signal Out of Range" messages, and OSD/Power Button Lockout. Solutions range from checking power and video cable connections to adjusting OSD settings and replacing video cards.
  • Parts Ordering: Information on how to order spare parts, including power boards from HP authorized repair centers and capacitors/connectors from EU distributors like Farnell, RS Component, tme Component, and Digi-Key. Cables can be purchased from the HP part store, and internal/external power supplies from EET.
  • Safety Information: Emphasizes critical safety precautions, including working in a dry and clean environment, using proper safety devices and approved tools, disconnecting power before opening the cabinet, following ESD safety procedures, and handling batteries safely. It also warns against getting the board wet and overheating the circuit board during soldering.

The guide underscores the importance of proper service methods for safe and reliable equipment operation, warning against improper methods that could damage the equipment.
