Managing
Calculator
Memory
The
HP-18C
has
approximately 1,200
units
(or Hbytes
H
)
of
calculator
memory
available for your
use
. Table
C-l
describes
the
amount
of
memory
used
by
the
various types
of
information
you
can
store. Built-
in variables
and
built-in
formulas
are
not
listed; space is allocated to
them
elsewhere
in
calculator memory.
The
message I
NSUFF
I C
lENT
Mnl0R
.....
informs
you
that
you are at-
tempting
to
do
an
operation
that
uses
more
calculator
memory
than
is
currently available.
Many
operations
require calculator
memory-for
example,
entering
alpha
mode,
switching
to
certain
menus,
storing
numbers
and
formulas,
naming
lists,
and
creating
custom
menus
.
Here
are
some
suggestions for
dealing
with
this situation:
1.
Whenever
the
message is displayed, you
should
complete
any
arithmetic calculations you were in
the
process of
doing
in
the
calculator line (press 0
or
.1
CLEAR I
).
This frees
the
memory
that
was
being
used
to store
each
of
the
numbers
and
operators.
2.
If,
after
completing
arithmetic calculations,
there
is still insuffi-
cient memory, you
must
further
reduce
the
amount
of
occupied
memory
.
There
are
a
number
of
ways
to
do
this:
If
you've
named
any
SUM
or
CFLO lists, you
can
rename
them
to
shorter
names
(refer to
page
111). Or, you
can
clear
any
SUM
or
CFLO lists you
no
longer
need
(refer to
page
114). Dis-
playing
the
GET
menu
requires memory,
and
you
may
find
that,
upon
pressing
..
' only
one
menu
label is displayed.
If
this label is
not
the
list you
want,
you
can
display
another
label
by
switching
to
the
list
displayed
in
the
GET
menu
and
then
pressing
..
again.
