Arithmetic
Introduction
Chapter
1
introduced
you to
using
the
calculator line for
doing
simple
arithmetic.
Chapter
2 contains
additional
information
on
doing
arithmetic calculations.
Using the Calculator Line
You
can
use
the
calculator line (line 3) to
do
arithmetic calculations
at
any
time, except
when
the
alphabetic
annunciator
(U)
is on.
Some-
times
the
HP-18C
displays letters
on
the
calculator line,
even
though
the
alphabetic
annunciator
is off. For example,
the
calculator
line
might
contain:
TOTAL=124.60
Then,
pressing 0 2 0
would
calculate 124.60
plus
2,
and
the
HP-18C
would
display
the
answer, 126.60.
Simple Arithmetic
Here
are
some
examples
of
simple arithmetic using
the
keys
0,
Q,
0,
[B,
and
.LJ (
.LJ
raises a
number
to a power). Notice
how
the
o
key
completes
the
calculation.
You
can
also
use
I INPUT I to complete
calculations.
*
If
the
HP-18C is displaying
the
CFLO or
SUM
menu,
[INPUT
I causes
the
result
of
the
cal-
culation to be
entered
into
the
number
list.
