Planning the Installation
NOTE: Two unique extension sizes are available: 5 Unit (5U) and 10 Unit (10U). Two-drive models
such as the MSL6030/6026 are designated as 5U. Four-drive models such as the MSL6060/6052
are designated as 10U.
A PTM can be mounted into the following rack enclosures:
• Compaq 7000/9000/10000 Series
• AlphaServer H9A
• HP rack system/e
Two PTM variations are available:
• A factory-assembled PTM (base unit) that can be used to connect two 5U libraries (one master
and one slave).
• The PTM base unit plus extensions with a combined length equal to the number of adjacent MSL
Series libraries installed in a rack enclosure.
• For 5U libraries: one master and up to seven additional slaves.
• For 10U libraries: one master and up to three additional slaves.
• Any combination of MSL Series libraries not to exceed 40 U.
If PTM extensions are required, assemble the entire PTM system before installing it in a multi-unit
library configuration.
