array A synonym of storage array, storage system, and
virtual array. A group of disks in one or more disk
enclosures combined with controller software that
represents disk storage capacity as one or more
virtual disks.
backups A read-only copy of data copied to media, such as
hard drives or magnetic tape, for data protection. A
full backup involves copying of all the data to the
media. An incremental backup copies only the data
that has changed since the last full backup. Backups
provide data protection if the system or hard drive
fails as the data is copied and stored on a separate
media.
