Section 3
The vehicle was also designed to
traverse a 40% (22°) side slope at a
speed of 9.7 km/h (6 mph) while
fully loaded and on a high friction
surface.
The vehicle can also climb a
40.6 cm (16 inch) vertical step.
Step climbing is best done by
approaching the step at an angle,
rather than straight on.
BRAKE AND THROTTLE
OPERATION TECHNIQUES
For logs, walls, rocks, severe
ditches, hills, sand, etc.
1. Bring the vehicle to a com-
plete stop. Do not overspeed
the engine.
2. Select the proper transmis-
sion and transfer case gear
range; usually first gear and
Four-Wheel Low Lock for such
obstacles.
3. If the wheels spin, maintain
steady throttle, with your foot
off the brake pedal, to allow
the traction control system to
control the wheel spin.
The Traction Control System
may not operate if the brakes
are applied.
4. If the wheel spin cannot be
controlled by the traction con-
trol system, fully press the
brake pedal with your left foot
so all wheel spin is halted.
5. Back away from the obstacle
so you can attempt a new
approach.
6. Then, as the first wheel crosses
the obstacle, be prepared to
alternate between the brake
and throttle to maintain con-
trol and avoid tire drop-off.
Repeat the controlled process
for the other wheels.
