Automatic Transmission (If
equipped)
CAUTION
Park the vehicle so that it will
not roll.
Be sure the shift lever is in
P (Park) and the parking brake
is firmly applied when you leave
your vehicle.
Otherwise, the vehicle could
move suddenly. You or others
may be injured and objects
could be damaged.
CAUTION
Make sure that the transfer case
is in a drive gear and not in
N (Neutral). Otherwise, the
vehicle will be free to roll even if
the shift lever is in P (Park).
Avoid leaving your vehicle while
the engine is running.
If you must leave your vehicle with
the engine running, check that the
shift lever is fully in P (Park). To do
this, hold the regular brake pedal
down after you have shifted into P
(Park) and try to move the shift
lever out of the Park position with-
out first pushing the button. If you
can, then the shift lever was not
locked in Park.
SHIFTING INTO P (PARK)
In order to shift into P (Park), do
the following:
1. Hold the regular brake pedal
down.
2. Set the parking brake.
See "Parking Brake" later in this
section for more information.
3. Shift into P (Park).
- Press and hold the button on
the shift lever.
-Move the shift lever all the
way forward.
4. Turn the ignition key to LOCK.
5. Remove the key from the igni-
tion.
