High-efciency particulate air (HEPA) lters are installed
in hygienic air units when extreme control of discharge
airborne particles is required. These lters are rated on
the percentage of 3 micron size particulates they capture.
In order to achieve the preferable ltration success the
lter manufacturer checks each lter for integrity before
shipment.
For ultimate success, the HEPA lters must be handled cor-
rectly, installed correctly, and the nal installation veried.
1. HEPA lters must be handled such that neither the air
entering nor the air leaving side of the lters are sub-
jected to poking pressures. Sharp objects may directly
compromise the ltration media. General concentrated
pressure may compromise the media by forcing it
against the internal aluminum pleat separators.
If unprotected HEPA lters are placed on dirty surfaces
before installing them in the AcuAir
®
unit lter frames
they become subjected to unnecessary contamination
wand possibly long term hygienic compromise.
2. In order for HEPA ltration to correctly control dis-
charge air particulate count bypass air must be
eliminated. AcuAir
®
HEPA lters include gaskets to
seal between the lter and the lter rack. During the
installation process it is important to verify the cleanli-
ness of both the gasket and the lter frame to assure a
continuous seal.
Install HEPA lters with the lter pleats running verti-
cally. Contrary to the installation of other rigid lters
where vertical pleats are a best practice, for HEPA
lters this orientation is a must.
3. Although the HEPA lter manufacture inspects every
HEPA lter before leaving the factory, it is necessary to
scan HEPA lters after installation to verify that there
are no pinhole leaks and no bypass air. It is possible to
repair most pinhole leaks and bypass holes in the eld.
