12.5 Filters, air dryer and pressure
release
Operation of the air pressure regulator and adjust
the pressure level
The air flowing through the pressure regulator (A) is delivered to the
air dryer (B).
The pneumatics system charging valve is positioned in the pipe
between the air drier and four-circuit protection valve. The valve
allows the pneumatic system to be pressurised to the desired pres‐
sure for, e.g., the system testing. The charging valve can also be
used to measure the pressure level of the pneumatic system.
When the system pressure is sufficient and the compressor has
switched to the exhaust, dry air is supplied back to the drier element
from the regeneration tank. At this time humidity is removed from
the drying agent. The air dryer is also fitted with an electric heating
element, which prevents freezing and improves the removal of
humidity from the system.
The air dryer is equipped with an overflow valve. If the dryer ele‐
ment is fully clogged, it is bypassed and the air flows directly to the
air tanks through the valve.
Adjust the pressure level
1 Connect a pressure gauge to the system charging fitting.
2 Run the engine until the pressure regulator switches the com‐
pressed air to the exhaust.
3 If the pressure indicated by the gauge differs from the refer‐
ence value (e.g. 8.1 bar), turn the adjustment screw (A),
clockwise to increase the pressure or anti-clockwise to
decrease the pressure, until the pressure is correct.
If necessary, decrease the system pressure e.g., by pressing
the brake pedal repeatedly.
Replace the drying filter element of the air dryer
The air dryer is fitted with a replaceable element, which includes a
coarse filter and drying agent that binds humidity.
The air dryer is located on the front left corner.
1 Remove the drying filter element (B).
2 Install new drying filter element.
