Examine the cooling fan belt tensioner
1 With the engine stopped, examine the tensioner arm, pulley,
and stops for cracks.
2 If any cracks are found, the tensioner must be replaced, see
Chapter
1.7 Cooling system
, paragraph

3 With the belt installed, examine that the tensioner arm stops
are not in contact with the spring case stop. If one of the two
stops is in contact:
Make sure that the correct belt is installed.
If the correct belt is installed, replace the belt, see
ANReplace the cooling fan drive belt
.
4 After replacing the belt, if the tensioner arm stops are still in
contact with the spring case stop, replace the tensioner.
5 With the belt removed, examine that the tensioner arm stops
are in contact with the spring case stop. If one of the two ten‐
sioner arm stops is not in contact, the tensioner must be
replaced.
6 Examine the location of the drive belt on the belt tensioner
pulley. The belt should be centered on, or close to the middle
of, the pulley. Misaligned belts, either too far forward or back‐
ward, can cause belt wear, belt roll-offs, or increase uneven
tensioner bushing wear.
