Hot examination
1 Operate the transmission in D (Drive) range until normal oper‐
ating temperature is reached:
•
Sump temperature (71 - 93°C)
•
Converter-out temperature (82 - 104°C)
2 If a transmission temperature gauge is not present, examina‐
tion fluid level when the engine water temperature gauge has
stabilized and the transmission has been operated under load
for at least one hour.
3 Park the vehicle on a level surface and shift to N (Neutral).
4 Apply the parking brake and block the wheels.
5 Allow the engine to idle (500 - 800 rpm).
6 With the engine running, remove the dipstick from the tube
and wipe clean.
7 Insert the dipstick into the tube until it seats and remove.
8 Examinate fluid level. Repeat the examination to verify the
reading.
9 If the fluid level is not within the HOT RUN band, add or drain
as necessary to bring the fluid level to within the band. Safe
operating level is within the HOT RUN band on the dipstick.
Replace the transmission oil filters
The oil filters are located at the bottom of the transmission. There
are two filters, prefilter and oil filter. It is easier to replace the filters
one by one.
