7. PROCESSOR CARD A002
Processor card A002 controls the power source with 32-bit microcontroller with the help of FPGA (Field Programma-
ble Gate Array)
7.1. Power supply
Gate driver card A001 15V is used to make processor card auxiliary voltages. 15V is brought to processor card thru
connector X3
Two step-down regulators (N1 and N5) regulate 5.3V and 1.2V voltages from the 15V. Three linear regulators (N17,
N18 and N19) is used to regulate 5V, 3.3V and 2,5V from 5,3V
7.2. Microcontroller
FastMig X power source is controlled by 32-bit microcontroller
Microcontroller has integrated CAN (Control Area Network) module which makes possible to implement CAN bus be-
tween other controllers
The Microcontroller (N11) controls the secondary voltage and gives reference current value to the FPGA based on the
measured secondary current and voltage. Current and voltage measurements are controlled by FPGA
Microcontroller also controls fans, power on LED, over temperature LED, DC-link overvoltage protection, A001 card
15V under voltage protection and cooling liquid unit based on measured information.
Microcontroller gets real time clock information from RTC-component D7 (Real Time Clock). When power source is
off, battery G1 keeps the RTC-component running. Battery type is 3Volt CR2032 Li:MnO
2
and estimated battery life is
5 years
Microcontroller configures FGPA and loads the configuration data to the FPGA every power source start-up
FastMig X secondary current and voltage measurements are calibrated by software
7.3. FPGA (field programmable gate array)
FPGA is used to implement peak current-mode control to directly control (peak) primary current. FPGA adjusts prima-
ry peak current so that secondary current is same as reference current given by microcontroller
FPGA is configured every time when the power source starts up
