Whileitisimportanttoprotectles,data,andsettingsthatareontheharddiskdrive,youalsomight
needtoinstallanewoperatingsystem,installnewdevicedrivers,updateyoursystemUEFIBIOS,or
recoverpreinstalledsoftware.Thisinformationwillhelpyouhandleyourcomputerwithpropercareand
keepitintopworkingshape.

Installinganewoperatingsystem
Ifyouinstallanewoperatingsysteminyourcomputer,youneedtoinstallthesupplementlesandThinkPad
devicedriversforitatthesametime.
•IfyouinstallanewWindows7operatingsystem,thenecessarylesarelocatedinthefollowingdirectories
ofyoursolidstate-driveorharddiskdrive:
–ThesupplementlesfortheoperatingsystemsupportedareintheC:\SWTOOLS\OSFIXESdirectory.
–ThedevicedriversfortheoperatingsystemsupportedareintheC:\SWTOOLS\DRIVERSdirectory.
–ThepreloadedsoftwareprogramsareintheC:\SWTOOLS\APPSdirectory.
Note:Ifyoucannotndthesupplementles,thedevicedrivers,andprogramsoftwareyouneedon
yourharddiskdrive,orifyouwanttoreceiveupdatesandthelatestinformationaboutthem,goto
http://www.lenovo.com/ThinkPadDrivers.
•IfyouinstallanewWindows8operatingsystem,gotohttp://www.lenovo.com/ThinkPadDriversforthe
latestdevicedrivers,andthenfollowtheinstructionsonthescreen.
Note:Theprocessofinstallingthenewoperatingsystemdeletesallthedataonyourharddiskdrive,
includingbackupsorimagesthatwerestoredinahiddenfolderbyuseofarecoveryprogram.
Beforeyoubegin
Note:IfyourcomputerisequippedwithbothaharddiskdriveandanmSATAsolidstatedrive,youare
notrecommendedtousethemSATAsolidstatedriveasabootabledevice.ThemSATAsolidstatedriveis
designedanddevelopedfor“cache”functionpurposeonly.IfyouusethemSATAsolidstatedriveasa
bootabledevice,itsreliabilityisnotguaranteed.
Beforeyouinstalltheoperatingsystem,dothefollowing:
•IfyouinstallanewWindows7operatingsystem,copyallthesubdirectoriesandlesintheC:\SWTOOLS
directorytoaremovablestoragedevice,toavoidlosinglesduringtheinstallation.
