Powerproblems
Printtheseinstructionsnowandkeepitwithyourcomputerforreferencelater.
Ifyourcomputerisgettingnopoweratall,checkthefollowingitems:
1.Verifythepowerswitch.Referto“System-statusindicators”onpage9.Thepowerswitchisilluminated
wheneverthecomputerison.
2.Checkallpowerconnections.Removeanypowerstripsandsurgeprotectorstoconnecttheacpower
adapterdirectlytotheacpoweroutlet.
3.Inspecttheacpoweradapter.Checkforanyphysicaldamage,andmakesurethatthepowercableis
rmlyattachedtotheadapterbrickandthecomputer.
4.Verifytheacpowersourceisworkingbyattachinganotherdevicetotheoutlet.
5.RemovethecomputerfromaThinkPadportreplicatorordockingstation.Referto“Detachinga
ThinkPadportreplicatorordockingstation”onpage109.
6.Removealldevicesandthentestforsystempowerwithminimaldevicesattached.
a.Disconnecttheacpoweradapterandallcablesfromthecomputer.
b.Closethecomputerdisplay,andturnthecomputerover.
c.Removethebattery,memorymodule,PCIExpressMiniCards,Ultrabaydevice,harddiskdriveor
solidstatedriveormSATAsolidstatedrive.SeeChapter6“Replacingdevices”onpage71.
d.Waitfor30seconds,andthenreinstallthememorymoduleandtheknowngoodbatteryortheac
poweradaptertotestthecomputerwithminimaldevicesattachedrst.
e.Reinstalleachdeviceoneatatimethatyouhaveremovedintheearliersteps.
Ifyourcomputerdoesnotrunonbatterypower,checkthefollowingitems:
1.Removeandreseatthebatterytomakesurethatitisproperlyconnected.Referto“Replacingthe
battery”onpage71.
2.Swapbatterieswithanothersimilarmodel,ifavailable.
IfanothersimilarThinkPadmodelisavailable,thenverifythatthebatterypackworksintheother
computerandthatthebatterypackfortheothermodelworksinthiscomputer.
3.Verifythebattery-statusindicator.Referto“Powerstatusindicators”onpage9.
Thebattery-statusindicatorisnormallyilluminatedwheneverthebatteryisinstalledandthecomputeris
on,ortheacpoweradapterisconnectedandthebatteryischarging.Thisindicatormightbeblinkingor
solidineitherorangeorgreencolordependingonthestatusofthebattery.
Apowerbuttonproblem
Problem:Thesystemdoesnotrespond,andyoucannotturnoffthecomputer.
Solution:Turnoffthecomputerbypressingandholdingthepowerbuttonfor4secondsormore.Ifthe
systemisstillnotreset,removetheacpoweradapterandthebattery.
Startupproblems
Printtheseinstructionsnowandkeepthemwithyourcomputerforreferencelater.
