5.7 Backup Battery
Batteries may be exchanged only by service personnel!
Battery replacement by insufficiently trained personnel can pose hazard or limit the medical device
functionality!
If you hear the sound signalling the back-up battery is about to die, it is necessary to plug in the bed in the
power grid immediately. Using the bed while the battery is completely dead is prohibited.
The birthing bed includes fully charged battery. The battery is automatically charged from the control unit
and does not require special maintenance.
Indication of battery charging mode
Battery charging mode is indicated by a green indicator LED on side control panel. The battery is a part of
the medical device control unit and is charged continuously, if connected to electrical power network.
When disconnected from the mains, the indicator LED switches off. Switched off LED means the function
on backup battery. At critically low battery power, the control box starts emitting beeping sound signal.
If the back-up battery is depleted, it takes one hour to charge for the minimum capacity
enabling using the battery again. If you request fully charged battery, it takes 10 hours.
Back-up time of the battery is estimated at 1-2 months. It depends especially on the
local temperature. Optimal local temperature is 15-25 °C. Maximum temperature for use of
battery is 50 °C!
When the sound signal announces low battery power (1/3 of fully charged condition), plug the
birthing bed in the power supply immediately and charge up the battery. Using the bed with
depleted battery is restricted.
Fully charged battery enables bed to serve as birthing bed (Height Adjustment, Tilt of Support
Systems, Nurse Call).
If the power supply of the bed is disconnected, the Call nurse function can work for about 1 or
2 months (if the bed positioning is not used).
