Overview

The LogTag UTRID-16 is a versatile USB PDF temperature recorder equipped with a built-in display, designed for multi-use applications. Its primary function is to monitor temperature and generate comprehensive reports without requiring proprietary software or hardware at the destination. Users can review statistical data directly on the device's display, eliminating the need for a PC for basic checks. For detailed analysis and configuration, the UTRID-16 integrates seamlessly with LogTag Analyzer software.

Function Description:

The UTRID-16 records temperature data and can be configured to generate various file types upon connection to a USB port, including PDF, CSV, and LogTag's native LTD files. The PDF file provides a direct, universally accessible report viewable with standard PDF software like Acrobat Reader. CSV files can be imported into spreadsheet programs for further manipulation, while LTD files offer detailed analysis and report generation within LogTag Analyzer, including the ability to combine charts from multiple recorders. The device's internal memory stores up to 16,129 real-time temperature values, allowing for extended monitoring periods.

The recorder can be configured to start recording in several ways: via a push button, which may include a start delay or pre-start readings, or at a specific date and time. Pre-start readings are a valuable feature that allows the device to begin recording as soon as it's unplugged from the USB port, preventing data loss if the user forgets to manually start the unit. While pre-start readings are not included in the PDF report, they are accessible through LogTag Analyzer.

Alarm functions are a critical aspect of the UTRID-16. It supports up to six different alarm trigger conditions (three upper and three lower alarms), each configurable with a threshold temperature, activation type (instant, consecutive, or accumulative), and a delay time. When an alarm condition is met, the device displays an alarm indicator (X) and relevant alarm limit markers. The display also shows the duration for which temperatures were above or below the set thresholds, providing immediate visual feedback on critical temperature excursions.

Usage Features:

The UTRID-16 features a familiar LogTag case layout with an integrated USB plug. The display shows the last recorded temperature, current time, and various indicators for recording status, alarms, and battery level.

  • Configuration: Before use, the UTRID-16 is configured using LogTag Analyzer software. This involves connecting the device to a PC via its USB port, where it is recognized as a new USB device. LogTag Analyzer then allows users to set parameters such as User ID, start method, logging interval, duration, alarm thresholds, and the types of files to be generated. Advanced options include display settings, chart scaling, and whether the STOP button can halt recording.
  • Starting the Recorder:
    • Push Button Start (Quickstart Enabled): Pressing the START/Mark button until "READY" disappears and the "REC" symbol appears initiates recording.
    • Push Button Start (Quickstart Disabled): Holding the START/Mark button for 4 to 6 seconds will start recording. Releasing it too early or too late will revert the device to "READY" mode.
    • Push Button Start with Start Delay: If configured with a start delay, the display will show "DELAY" and the remaining time in hours or days. Recording begins once the countdown reaches zero.
    • Date and Time Start: The recorder automatically begins recording at the pre-set date and time.
  • During Recording: The display continuously shows the most recently recorded temperature and the current time. Alarm markers appear if the temperature exceeds or falls below configured thresholds. An "X" indicator signifies an active alarm event.
  • Setting an Inspection Mark: During recording, a brief press of the START/Mark button will record an inspection mark in the data, indicated by the "MARK" symbol on the display. This is useful for noting specific events during the monitoring period.
  • Paused Readings: The device can be configured to ignore a set number of readings for alarm and statistics calculations after a button press. These "paused" readings are still recorded and shown in the data list and graph but do not trigger alarms or affect min/max values.
  • Stopping the Recorder:
    • Automatically: The UTRID-16 stops recording when the maximum number of readings is reached or when it is plugged into a USB socket (if configured to do so).
    • Manually: If enabled during configuration, holding the STOP/Review button for 4 seconds will stop the recording, indicated by the "STOPPED" symbol.
  • Reviewing Alarms and Statistics: At any time, even during recording or after stopping, users can press the STOP/Review button to cycle through recorded statistics on the display. This includes maximum and minimum temperatures, and details of any triggered alarms, showing the duration for which temperatures exceeded specific thresholds.
  • Accessing Data: Once recording is complete and the UTRID-16 is plugged into a USB port, it appears as a new drive. The device automatically generates PDF, CSV, and LTD files (if configured), which can be accessed directly from the drive. The "USB" symbol blinks when files are ready.

Maintenance Features:

The UTRID-16 is designed with user-friendly maintenance in mind, particularly regarding its power source.

  • Battery Replacement: The device uses a user-replaceable CR2032 Lithium Battery. When the display indicates "LOW" battery, users can replace it by carefully removing the rear label, turning the battery door anti-clockwise with a coin, and inserting a new CR2032 cell. It is crucial to hibernate the unit using LogTag Analyzer before battery replacement to prevent memory corruption. After replacement, the device should be re-configured with LogTag Analyzer.
  • Protective Cap: The USB plug is protected by a cap, which should always be replaced before placing the UTRID-16 with goods to shield the connector from moisture and dirt. For applications requiring a higher IP rating, the unit should be used in a protective case.
  • Data Retention: The data on the unit is retained even after files are generated and downloaded. Each time the UTRID-16 is plugged into a computer, the files are re-generated with a new file name. However, if the battery is exhausted, the real-time clock may lose accuracy.
  • Acclimatisation: When configuring a USB recorder, it is recommended to allow sufficient time for the unit to acclimatize to the target environment, especially if an upper alarm is configured. This can be achieved through a start delay or a date/time start.
