4.6.2 Dismantling the Air Shield Valve
Referring to DIAG 9 above:
Screw out the Valve Screw (G).
Carefully remove the Valve Cap (F) and ‘O’ Ring (H). Use an air line to gently blow down
the hole in both the Valve Cap and Valve Retainer (B). Discard the exposed diaphragm
and ‘O’ Rings.
To extract the Valve Retainer and Diaphragm Disc (B) turn the ‘Speed Control’ Needle to
the ‘slow’ position and with compressed air connected to the motor, press the trigger to lift
the valve assembly by air pressure from below.
Push the Valve Retainer back into the cavity with the finger to release the second ‘O’ Ring
then remove the retainer, disc and Diaphragm.
WHEN & WHY?
The Air Shield Valve should only be dismantled when it is absolutely necessary. For example:
Wire melts back onto the Nozzle.
